Not only for hands and cleaning.
Paper towels aren't just useful for cleaning up the kitchen—they can also help vegetables stay fresh longer in the fridge. This is how it works.
If you're used to buying whole baskets of vegetables and fruits and storing them in the refrigerator for a long time, you've probably noticed that after a few days, crunchy celery sticks or lettuce leaves become limp and unappetizing. All this is due to moisture. Moisture is the killer and enemy of fruits and vegetables all over the world. But we have a simple solution.
First, it is advisable to wash vegetables and fruits immediately before consumption. This is especially true for delicate fruits, such as strawberries. So they will stay fresh longer.
Secondly, for rational and longer-lasting storage of the "green basket" in the refrigerator, you can use paper towels. It's simple: put paper towels at the bottom of the box for fresh vegetables. Every time a new batch of products appears, it is necessary to change the towels. If the lettuce or spinach was already sold in a bag, you can add a paper towel directly to this bag. It also keeps the drawer clean.
The fact is that most fruits and vegetables release moisture. This moisture does not disappear anywhere, and therefore spoils new batches of products. Paper towels absorb it, slowing down the process of softening and spoilage of vegetables.
